Despite its aim to improve on the original movie, Dhurandhar: The Revenge fails as it has become a bloated, exhausting spectacle where more effort goes into being loud than being thoughtful. Directed by Aditya Dhar, this revenge film is an incredible 229 minutes long (some might sit through this length), and the director interprets length as a measure of insight and depth and intense as a measure of impact.

Directly taken up where the first film left off, Jaskirat Singh Rangi (aka Hamza Ali Mazari), played by Ranveer Singh, executes all the violence and manipulation to make his way through the criminal world of Karachi. Despite having an intriguing premise for what was to be an edge-of-your-seat espionage thriller built around revenge, the means of execution quickly devolve into total chaos. The story is filled with so much clutter (gang wars, political conspiracies and near-constant bloodshed) that a viewer is unlikely to find any emotional connection to or coherency in the story at all.

Although the movie has numerous flaws there is no doubt that Ranveer Singh gives a powerful performance when it comes to portraying the dualism of rage and fragility. He does what he can to make a movie feel somewhat stable but when a film has no sense of direction to begin with it’s tough for anyone to do anything with their creative talents in order to help rescue it. Unfortunately, Ranveer Singh cannot bring to life a screenplay that resembles more of  a web series with a string of pearls as opposed to being more connected or coherent as a work of motion picture.

Director Aditya Dhar creates his action films with an unbelievable amount of stylised violence and noisy, fast-moving action scenes that do nothing other than to distract the audience instead of supporting the theme of the film. The explosions and graphic violent images take over from the evolution of the characters in the film, with the secondary characters, such as Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhvan, not contributing whatsoever to the overall evolution of the storyline due to their one-dimensional presentation.

One of the major downsides of this film is its very long running time. The long length of most scenes drags down the pace of each scene, and the audience's ability to remain engaged with the story also suffers as a result.

DharundharThe Revenge is yet another example of excessive movie-making failing. The movie also has many eye-catching scenes, but it does not have enough of a well-developed storyline to appeal to audiences looking for substance in their filmmaking. Audiences that enjoy loud and exciting movies will not be disappointed with this film, while those looking for smart, substantial films with well-developed storylines will likely not find this film worthy of their time.
