Bhoot Bangla Teaser Review: Akshay Kumar’s Horror-Comedy Feels Repetitive, Reminds Audiences Strongly Of Bhool Bhulaiyaa Formula
On March 12, the teaser for Akshay Kumar’s new movie called Bhoot Bangla was released, featuring co-stars Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav and being the last time viewers will see veteran actor Asrani in another film. Almost immediately after this trailer hit the internet, many viewers commented how similar it was to the older movie Bhool Bhulaiyaa and questioned if Bhoot Bangla was an original film.
In the 84-second long trailer, the first scene includes a creepy voiceover by the famous Asrani that warns the audience “Nobody ever gets married in Mangalpur…Something will happen.” Initially, as you watch the movie, you see there is a haunted home that has a lot of weird/creepy stuff happening inside it.
Akshay Kumar does his usual part in this genre again as a comic without being scary at all/horror films while: Both Paresh Rawal & Rajpal Yadav are very comical throughout the movie; they lighten up the entire film by being so goofy. Typical horror/comedy movies have similar themes, this particular teaser has similar characteristics including: A dark hallway, an old creepy house, A ghost coming out of nowhere, & Several silly events happening.

The new movie 'Bhoot Bangla' marks a collaboration between filmmaker Priyadarshan and actor Akshay Kumar after nearly a fourteen year break. Although they are projecting a new approach to horror-comedy film making with this new movie, several fans feel that there has not been enough creative changes since they last worked together to differentiate it from the multitude of other similar films in this genre that have come before it (e.g., 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa', 'Phir Hera Pheri' etc.). Consequently, several viewers indicated via social media that they were dissatisfied with the teaser and many expressed concern that the film will follow a predictable formula of the past.
