BTS Reunite After 4 Years With Historic Seoul Concert, Launch ‘Arirang’ Era
Following a break of almost four years, BTS gave a massive complimentary concert (the first massive-scale, in-person concert that they performed before an estimated audience of about 22,000 persons) to mark the celebration of their reunion at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul (next to Gyeongbokgung Palace).
There was an estimated total of approximately 260,000 persons who attended and were able to experience the exclusive live premiere of the band's most current studio album, "Arirang," which is based off of a traditional Korean folk song that speaks about "belonging and identity." There were over a million online viewers of the concert from all around the world.
The show opened with "Body to Body," then followed up with hits like "Butter" and "Dynamite" from their earlier albums. It also only used one hour of time for RM to have the chance to perform along with BTS, even though RM had an ankle injury that would have put most other artists out of commission. However, the concert ended on a very emotional note when they performed "Mikrokosmos" to celebrate the bond between BTS and their fans called ARMY.
Hamish Hamilton, an award-winning British filmmaker and the concert’s director, has directed various international sporting events and concerts including The Super Bowl Halftime show. The stage design combined contemporary design and aspects of contemporary Korean culture; thus, this concert was also very significant in regards to its historical and cultural significance. On the night before the event took place, there was an incredible drone display that stirred excitement for those were that's watching (or, visiting) from all parts of the globe.
Seoul is full of fans wearing the traditional Korean hanbok style, but also have modern day twists so like their (or) clothing that goes along with BTS’ overall impact on the world around them culturally. The majority of fans wore purple which represents BTS and ARMY. Fan pride and loyalty was also demonstrated by the way that they dressed.
The biggest tour that BTS has ever done will take place from April 2026 through March 2027 and will visit thirty-four cities around the world during this time. Over the course of the thirty-four cities that BTS is performing in, fans will be able to view and celebrate this experience via a Netflix reunion special that highlights both the concert and BTS' talents.
In addition to the music, the tour is meant to show how proud BTS is of their heritage, to demonstrate their perseverance through difficult situations, and the relationship between BTS and their fans.
