Nepal Showcases Luxury Wedding Destinations

Today, the "Nepal Destination Wedding & OTAs Connect" event was successfully conducted in New Delhi. The Nepal Hotel Association worked together with the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi and Nepal Tourism Board to create this targeted B2B networking event designed to market Nepal as a leading destination for weddings and travel, and to promote the hotel sector as an ally to the Indian wedding and travel sectors.

The excitement of the event, which attracted nearly 90 participants (21 participants from Nepal's hotels/hospitality and 45 from India's Wedding Planners and OTAs), demonstrates that there are many growing international recognitions of Nepal as a distinct and quality wedding/travel destination. The significant level of enthusiasm from all attendees give credence that Nepal is gaining acceptance globally as an exceptional wedding and travel choice.

The programme began with a formal welcome, including addressed by esteemed dignitaries. The opportunity to host weddings is growing at tremendous rates; Mr. Binayak Shah (President of the Hotel Association Nepal) expressed how much potential exists for the destination wedding market in Nepal. Mr. Surendra Thapa (Minister/DCM Nepalese Embassy) spoke about both the tourism and culture that bind us together as Nepal and India. The Hon. Laxman Gautam (Director Nepal Tourism Board) described how Nepal has so many different places and types of events that will satisfy today's traveller or wedding celebrant.
Neeraj Dhawan, the Chairman and Founder of IWWA, was one of the speakers at the meeting that took place. Mr. Prabin Bahadur Pandey (Senior VP – HAN) talked about the potential opportunities that exist for wedding tourism in Nepal and expressed a commitment to pursuing initiatives like this one in the years ahead. He also presented the vote of thanks to all attendees.

Mr. Tek Bahadur Mahat from HAN made a special presentation called "Nepal's Destination Wedding Property Profiles," which featured many images showing off Nepal’s stunning natural landscape, its luxurious venues, and all the growth taking place in wedding tourism. Besides Mr. Mahat presenting a PowerPoint presentation, the largest hospitality companies in Nepal (including Soaltee Kathmandu, Hotel Yak & Yeti, Dusit Thani, Chandragiri Hills Resort, Gokarna Forest Resort, Royal Tulip Kathmandu, Mercure, and Aloft Kathmandu) had an opportunity to promote their hotels at the event to Indian partners by displaying their hotel services and properties.

An organized networking component to the event allowed hospitality providers from Nepal to network with wedding planners and OTAs from India in a mutually cooperative manner. The evening ended with a cocktail dinner enabling the continued development of friendships and connections made throughout the event while continuing to showcase various aspects of what makes Nepal uniquely attractive as a destination.

As a result, this event created a much stronger global identity for Nepal as the premier destination for weddings, and established and reinforced tourism partnerships between both countries.
