Kara Review: Dhanush Shines In A Powerful Action Thriller Packed With Emotion And Suspense
After much anticipation, Dhanush's film Kara finally opened to the Indian population. Directed by Vignesh Raja and a lot of buzz surrounding it due to the intensity of Kara's trailer and what it promises (i.e., comedy and emotional drama with action and suspense). The audience in attendance had used social media to comment on their experiences (both for those, who still found it as amazement) following the shows in which they attended; meaning that there were not only many attendees at this premiere but that they really felt like Kara was going to deliver them a powerful movie that they wanted by Dhanush.
Storyline
Kara takes place during the Gulf War of 1991 and adds historical tension to the plot. The plot has a number of conflicts with a high level of stakes (crime, emotions and survival). The first half of the history starts with an intense robbery within a bank, which sets the tone for the movie. The climax of the story will interweave action and family emotional elements until the conclusion, while balancing the level of suspense to create a drama primarily driven by the characters, while also allowing the film to surprise its audiences and keep their interest level up throughout each of the two parts of the film, especially at the end of part one in which there is an unexpected cliffhanger, giving viewers a reason to want to see Part two.
Positive Points
Dhanush's power-packed portrayal of an intense character gives Kara its strength as a film with viewers flocking to social media lauding him as having put on one of the best performances of his career. He performs effortlessly in each scene as he adds intensity, emotion and the essence of a star. Director Vignesh Raja should be commended for providing a completely fresh and spectacular look to Dhanush! The other performers (Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Jayaram, Karunaas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and MS Bhaskar) are all integral contributors who helped enhance Dhanush's character through their performance in this film.
There has been a huge positive response to this film however some viewers have commented on how scenes in the village context slowed down the progression at times. There is also some impression amongst viewers that parts of the film drag in comparison to the previous dynamic half. For those looking for non-stop action, the emotion and drama of the second half may come across as slower than expected.
Negative Points
A number of reviewers felt like this was a positive film and noted the film tended to lag as it transitioned from village scenes to other parts in the movie. They stated that the 2nd part of the movie dragged on in a lot of places as compared to being a fast moving, gripping, and entertaining first half. Additionally, reviewers stated that those looking for non-stop action may feel that the overall pacing of the film was somewhat slow due to the time it takes to develop its more emotional scenes.
