iPhone 18 Pro Revealed: Variable Aperture Camera And New ‘Dark Cherry’ Color Revealed
The iPhone 18 series from Apple will not have its official release for a few months; however, the excitement is already building based on early leaks about the product. The latest leaks indicate camera technologies that promise to be updated as well as some new colour options being offered for the 2026 premium devices.
The camera technology that is being speculated about that is perhaps of the most importance to users is the proposed rear camera system that will have variable aperture capability available on both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max models. The iPhone will open more of its lens aperture in dimly illuminated areas so that more light can enter the camera, just as it would in bright conditions, to ensure optimal overall exposure.
The use of variable apertures within these cameras will provide an unprecedented level of flexibility and functionality for mobile photography, with far greater control over the quality and clarity of photos taken under various lighting conditions. This will also give some additional verification to Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been a long-time analyst for Apple and has been quoted as predicting this same feature. Should Apple pursue production of variable aperture cameras on their next-generation mobile devices, they will be one of only a few manufacturers that produce mobile devices with camera functionality that is similar to that of DSLR cameras.
Recently, a number of rumors have indicated that the iPhone 18 will be available in new colors. One popular rumor is that dark cherry (a rich shade of red) will replace the controversial shade of cosmic orange that was previously used by Apple on iPhones.
In addition to dark cherry, there are rumors that the iPhone 18 will also be available in light blue, dark gray, and silver, all of which may feature both modern and classic designs.
Some additional rumors include that Apple may remove the traditional black color from its iPhone Pro models altogether. Established Apple fans, who regularly receive a black iPhone, may disagree about the newly introduced colours available for use. According While the new colours may represent Apple's biggest change in their mobile division yet, the iPhone 18 line does not appear to have an official launch date (based on reports) until September of 2026. It is expected that the iPhone will have at least two new features — camera advancements and completely redesigned phones.
