Toy Story 5 Trailer Review: Pixar Brings Nostalgia, Heart And A Timely Tech Vs Toys Conflict
Fans of the popular franchise Toy Story feel the need for another sequel after the emotional end in Toy Story 4. The new trailer for Toy Story 5 has changed many fans’ minds about supporting another sequel due to its return of the charm, comedy, and emotional warmth of the original two films. Directed by Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris, Toy Story 5 appears to blend nostalgia by using a current technological issue as a basis for a unique modern conflict that many parents will feel strongly connected to. Toy Story 5 provides a unique experience as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang set out on another heartfelt adventure but this time their biggest battle will be with technology and not another toy.
Storyline
What we see in the trailer is a world where all of the traditional toys are beginning to be ignored and children are captivated by electronic gadgets and handheld devices. Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the toys suddenly find themselves fighting for their place in a generation that is being influenced by screens and technology.
The film’s story revolves around a new electronic toy that appears out of nowhere and quickly becomes the favorite toy of all children. The classic toys are filled with fear and uncertainty created by this new toy and are thus thrust into a fight for their own importance again. The trailer shows a lot of emotion, but it has a great blend of all the other elements too—humor, action and some heartwarming moments.
There are also some messages in the film about changing your way of life, talking with others and fitting in with today’s society that give it a very grown-up vibe while still being family-friendly.
Positive Points
One of the significant advantages of the trailer is the fact that it captures the essence of the first three Toy Story movies very well. The comedy is very natural, emotions are captured correctly, and you watch Woody interact with Buzz instantly brings back good memories.
There is a contemporary aspect to the fact that there are toys competing against technology. Many individuals used to have a favourite physical toy when they were younger, but with the increase in usage of gadgetry and electronic devices there may be feelings of loss regarding the type of playtime that would have occurred during childhood. It appears that Pixar's goal is to create a movie that both entertains and serves as a message about what children are currently experiencing in their growing up experience.
The animation is stunning, from the environment to character design. For those who watch the trailer, seeing Tom Hanks – who has starred in all of the Toy Story movies – will invoke a sense of nostalgia and familiarity with an old friend.
Negative Points
While Toy Story 5 is getting much hype and kudos, some may argue that the franchise should have ended with Toy Story 4. There is risk of emotional loss if a new sequel is made to the franchise.
There seems to be a lot of emphasis on nostalgia, as seen in the trailer, so how well will this film do in terms of originality if it can only give us a repeat of the emotions from the previous movies? The premise of "technology vs. toys" is certainly a very real concept in today's world; however, if this theme is not thoroughly explored during the course of Film 5, it could also give off a very familiar feel to filmgoers.
Overall: Toy Story 5 has surprised many with what has been uncovered thus far. The teaser trailer balances family friendly humor, nostalgia for fans, emotional connections and modern themes, yet stays true to the essence of what Toy Story has meant to so many. Pixar has put a lot of time and heart into creating these characters, whom people all around the world treasure dearly. If Toy Story 5 can bring the level of creativity and emotion we've come to expect from the franchise, it will definitely be another well-received entry into one of the world's most loved animated series!
