Drishyam 3 Teaser Review: Mohanlal Returns, But First Glimpse Falls Short of Expectations
For the upcoming movie Drishyam3, fans have been waiting with much anticipation, as we now have our first teaser from the production for this accomplished and successful films franchise directed by Jeethu Joseph. Mohanlal returns as Georgekutty and is joined again by Meena, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil from the previous films. Produced by Anthony Perumbavoor and distributed by Pen Studios and Panorama Studios, there is already a lot of excitement surrounding Drishyam 3 based on the success of its predecessors. There has been an enormous amount of anticipation for this trailer, as many fans have not seen anything from the sequel for quite some time and wanted to find out what kind of material would be included in the teaser, and whether or not this third film will continue the same content patterns of the previous films in the franchise.
Storyline
Through the use of providing excitement to its viewers and reminding them that this particular series of films has existed for quite a while; this introduction establishes tension within the audience. There are very few specific details revealed in the new movie preview; however the majority of the content shown in the new movie preview comes from earlier movies. It leads the viewer to believe that there are still some past secrets and unresolved storylines that would therefore influence this film. The fact that Georgekutty's (Mohanlal) story is not over is demonstrated in this teaser — several classic moments have been seen in each of the previous two films. This teaser also seems to imply that there are yet more secrets to be uncovered from our past and that they may affect Georgekutty in future way, perhaps implying some type of tragedy. The studios/makers of the film have not shared any detailed developments regarding the next movie's conflict at this time.
Positive Points
You can really see what a tremendous star Mohanlal becomes in this teaser, especially in his performance as Georgekutty, the character most people across India are still talking about today. From his very first scene, he will remind you once again how amazing he is on screen and how impactful his performances were in the first two films. The supporting cast provides lots of familiarity and depth emotionally as well. The "mystery" aspect of the teaser is ideal for a thriller series like Drishyam, and the fact that fans will remember aspects from the previous two movies adds to the excitement.
Negative Points
The main negative part of the teaser is how weak it is because it lacks anything that could be considered as a strong hook for viewers to get excited about. Instead, there are many moments from the first two films that were put together in an attempt at creating new material for the teaser, but ultimately the moments just provided some nostalgia to people who have already seen them. Therefore, while using nostalgia can work, it was hoped that this would create something new and exciting, rather than just to repeat something old and not create a lot of suspense through the close-up shots and limited new visuals. Thus, it is safe rather than risky as it should be for a movie with this much anticipation.
Overall: Fans are excited again for their franchise since they got to see the teaser for Drishyam 3 and will want to see how it goes from here, but the trailer doesn't have a "wow" factor as a lot of people expected after the amount of time spent on the lead-up. The story continues to be shrouded in mystery, so there will probably be many expectations for the next "real" trailer to present true suspense and excitement that will create a level of enthusiasm for the movies!
