The Wish Granting App (WGA) stars teenagers using apps to make their everyday teenage lives more exciting than before.  In this chilling story, an app called "Girigo" gives students the opportunity to make a Wish (to receive something they would not have been able to obtain by other means). However, Girigo is not as harmless as it first appears.

Storyline

The user must fill out an online questionnaire that collects all of the student's information, record a Wish, and submit the request through the App. At first, students are begging for their Wishing (asking to have their dreams become reality) to come true but then something starts to go wrong. The countdown timer on the student's app begins to counting down from 5-minutes until their Wish becomes a reality and then when the Wish is fulfilled, a death occurs as a result of making that Wish.

As the timer began the terrifying things started happening. Fear spreads through the students when they start to believe that they have been cursed and cannot stop whatever has been started. Characters Ha Jun, Na Ri, and Seo Ah are racing against time to identify what is happening. While the mystery grows deeper, there are odd images (the girl in the background is silent), ritualistic settings like those used in horror movies, and clues of something supernatural at work. They will need to figure out the truth behind Girigo before the clock runs out (countdown = zero).

Positive Points

One of the strongest aspects of the trailer is its compelling premise, which blends horror with technology in a new way. The atmosphere created for the trailer is scary due to effective use of lighting, actors’ facial expressions, and a foreboding red glint off the cell phones. As the audience becomes drawn into the trailer, it sets an overall pace for it's duration, and builds tension all along the way. The cast also does extremely well to represent the fear and despair of their characters.

Negative Points

The premise itself is unique; however, people who enjoy supernatural thrillers involving cursed applications or devices may already have seen something similar. There are many different elements suggested by the trailer; for example, ghosts, ritualistic behavior, and psychological fear may lead to a cluttered experience in terms of the overall tone and pacing of the film if not developed properly.

Overall: If Wishes Could Kill appears to showcase great technology-based horror in a modern setting while incorporating elements of supernatural horror. As long as there is a solid level of ambience and entertaining story, this will create suspense and excitement for an audience to enjoy.
