Insidious Out of the Further Trailer Review: Promises A Dark New Chapter For The Franchise
Today, the first teaser of "Insidious: Out of the Further" has been released, showcasing this horror franchise's evolution since it began. It debuted during CinemaCon, where news of new character and an even darker/ scarier overall idea compared to previous films was revealed as well as an expansion of the concept of "the Further" into additional dark and dangerous realms.
Storyline
The story revolves around Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, a new mother who returns to her childhood home and discovers a disturbing new reality. In the trailer, we see Gemma use her newfound ability to travel back and forth between our world and the "Further," which is an essential and consistent component in all prior entries of the Insidious franchise. However, the stakes are higher for Gemma than for all other characters to date, as Gemma's return to this world is not merely limited to visiting the Further, but now she can also bring back entities (spirits) with her into the real world, thereby blurring the lines between the living and the supernatural.
Positive Points
The first thing we notice in the trailer is the emotional experience of viewing the dark and twisted images of horror and fright that portray psychological horror and intense visual imagery, including becoming possessed by spirits and different places becoming distorted, thereby adding to the growing sensation that the barrier between the two worlds (the real world and Further) is collapsing more each minute. This new direction for this franchise indicates that it will no longer simply focus on jump scares and the psychological fear of leaving your house, but will encompass emotional and mental stress as well.
Negative Points
Jacob Chase is the director of Insidious: Out of the Further. It will be the fifth installment in the Insidious franchise featuring the Lambert Family, however, it does not pick up on any of the plot threads from the prior four installments and therefore both Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson will not reprise their roles in this project. This will create another prequel to Insidious and create its own separate storyline along with continuing to expand and create a new storyline within the Insidious Universe.
Overall: The Insidious movies have always been successful in that there has always been a consistent revenue of around $740 million by way of the franchise, which is one of the most successful horror franchises out there. Over three decades of creating this spooky franchise has resulted in new ways of telling insidious history through this production company while still being scary enough to keep fans coming back again and again. The Insidious film Entitled Insidious: Out of the Further comes to theaters August 21, 2026, and looks to be a big contender among other horror features in the year 2026.
