Citroen Basalt X 2025 Review: Price, Images, Colours & More
Citroen Basalt X 2025

Citroen has upgraded its fashionable coupe-SUV considerably with the arrival of the 2025 Basalt X. More equipment, wiser technology, and lower prices across the range mean the Basalt X is a better-value proposition than it ever was. Prices have slipped to a starting point of ₹7.95 lakh, with the range-topping Basalt X Max costing ₹12.90 lakh—a reduction of nearly ₹1 lakh from the outgoing model. Bookings are available for ₹11,000, and Citroen is evidently looking to disrupt the segment with this update.

Exterior: Understated Changes with a New Branding

Exterior-wise, the Basalt X takes forward the coupe-like profile and muscular posture of the previous model, with the sole significant alteration being the introduction of a new 'X' badge on the rear gate. Dual-tone roof (an extra ₹21,000) as an option gives it more of a sports character, but otherwise, exterior updates are restrained and sleek.

Interior: More Premium, More Stylish

Inside, particularly within the Basalt X Max, it's upgraded to a more premium feel. The interior now boasts sloping pattern impressions on the dashboard, bronze trim, and refined tan-and-black leatherette seats. The dashboard is covered in soft-touch leatherette, adding to the overall ambiance. Citroen obviously wanted to enhance the in-cabin experience with this facelift.

Technology: Meet Cara, Your Smart In-Car Assistant

The highlight feature in the Basalt X Max automatic trims is Cara, Citroen's first in-car AI-based assistant, designed completely in India. Cara provides real-time flight information, traffic routes based on your calendar and car health, and can control your calls, media, and navigation using voice commands. It's a standout feature that provides real value, particularly for tech enthusiast buyers.

Features: Well-Equipped Across the Range

Features shared across variants and standard are ventilated front seats, cruise control, push-button start/stop, keyless entry, ambient lighting, LED fog lamps, and an optional 360-degree camera (₹25,000). It makes the Basalt X feel suitably equipped even compared to its competition in the price segment.

Engine & Performance: No Changes Here

Mechanically, Basalt X persists with two petrol engine trims: a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (110hp) with 6-speed manual or auto, and an 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (82hp) with a 5-speed manual. Despite the absence of a diesel and hybrid trim, the engines are finely calibrated for city and light highway driving.

Verdict: The 2025 Citroen Basalt X does not only receive a price reduction—it receives smarts, premiumness, and competitiveness. With the addition of the Cara assistant, cosmetic and interior upgrades, and a more value-oriented pricing, the Basalt X is now a strong contender in the subcompact SUV segment. If you're interested in something that looks great, is high-tech, and different in the ₹8–13 lakh bracket, this Citroen is well worth considering.
