Riteish Deshmukh's much awaited film, Raja Shivaji, has finally made it to theatres after waiting for several years. It has gained an enormous amount of support from fans on social media worldwide. This movie revolve around the real life hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and all the great achievements he has done during his lifetime. Riteish played the character of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and directed it too, which is very special for him because he invited many of his famous Bollywood friends to be part of the film.

Plot Summary

The film depicts the entire life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's transition from hope to fearlessness and then ultimately into establishing an entire empire, the Maratha Empire, and establishing himself to be the greatest warrior in Indian history for his bravery and leadership while fighting for what he believed in, to protect his people. The film covers all major battles, emotional scenes, and all political and other struggles that  made him who he is today and are part of his legacy as being one of the few military geniuses of our time. Although there are a lot of action scenes throughout the film, the filmmakers also attempted to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's character, values, and desire for justice through his efforts over time.

Positive Points

  • Riteish Deshmukh gave one of the best performances as Raja Shivaji with sincerity and dignity from a place of true emotion. From beginning to end he showed the reality of what this man was and the passion he had for his role.
  • Many areas of the film's cinematography are equally impressive, such as all of the battle scenes, palatial sets & huge visual elements throughout the movie. Complementing all of these are the background music scores that create excitement and energy in key scenes and increase the overall emotional intensity of those scenes.
  • Salman Khan’s much-discussed cameo has generated a lot of excitement overall. His (cameo’s) impact was similar in theatres—people cheering, whistling & full of excitement for him when he appears.

Negative Points

  • In my estimation, the speed at which certain sequences of events unfold in this feature film are inconsistent with one another. In addition to being longer than they needed to be, there were numerous segments of this motion picture that are too slow-paced because of their lack of suspense; therefore, the overall pace of the film suffers.
  • There are also some segments of the film's emotional scenes that needed better writing. The visuals were stunning but there were many different examples where the visuals overshadowed the storytelling. As such, for many viewers who were looking forward to seeing a historically accurate account had difficulty watching the film because of its pacing and relatively weak storytelling abilities.

Conclusion: The movie Raja Shivaji is a history-based film based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and chronicles the great moments of his life through a great number of moving as well as action-related scenes. Riteish Deshmukh makes his debut as a director with Raja Shivaji and, while the film has some pacing and storytelling issues, it is well regarded as a good movie for film-based on heroic or historical stories.
