Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Review: Promises Darker Stakes, Brutal Action, Expanding Marvel Street Universe
From the recently published trailer for Season 2 of Daredevil, we can assume that this part of the Marvel characters on the street will have a much more serious and complex depiction than what we've seen in the past of Daredevil, Wilson Fisk, Bullseye and Jessica Jones and a number of other well-known characters returning from previous installments. As such, we will see an increased level of danger than has previously existed. There is also an extreme amount of intensity and emotion provided through the Teaser Trailer that suggests that the eventual battle for control over NYC's underground crime syndicate will be profoundly brutal.
The ongoing battle between Matt Murdock and Mayor Wilson Fisk is still raging on against crime, but Fisk is now even more ruthless and erratic than before. Bullseye also reappears and attacks Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force and shows off his ability to kill at Fisk's diner. Lastly, we learn that Jessica now has a child, which illustrates how far Jessica has changed from being an extremely tough woman. We also find out that Karen Page will go to jail and that some of the characters may have rifts with each other. Last but not least, we get to see The Punisher and we should eventually see a new spin-off series called "The Punisher: One Last Kill," which will lead to three different storylines blending together into one continuous story throughout Daredevil: Born Again and sequels!
The biggest thing about the trailer is the tense environment in which action sequences take place in a raw, realistic fashion, while still capturing the feel of the overall Daredevil franchise. Background music, combined with visually high-quality production value, builds great suspense for the viewer. The overall expansion of Marvel’s street-level universe through the Defenders connections will certainly be a positive for fans.
The introduction of multiple plot lines and multiple characters means that the trailer does, at times, appear to be slightly overstuffed with storylines. The fact that so many arcs are being introduced simultaneously risks narrative imbalance. There are also a few moments in the trailer that, while visually impressive, appear to rely much more heavily on a "stylized" visual style that may undermine the story. As a result of the heavy lean on possible future spin-offs being teased, there is a chance that viewers will become distracted from the main storyline of Season 2.

The second season should still provide a blend of action, emotion and drama that has characterised Daredevil to date; but with this season potentially featuring a lot of large scale and epic storylines, it will likely come close to being too ambitious for its own good. Nevertheless, considering the great acting and interesting conflicts up until now have already set a strong foundation for further successes with the second season's future. A successful second season of Daredevil: Born Again can give Marvel another stellar project that will history view as one of their best.
