Anshul Sharma's De De Pyaar De 2 trailer just dropped; this is a follow-up to Akiv Ali's 2019 romantic comedy. The story revolves around what worked from Part 1: humor, an age-gap romance, and family drama. The sequel stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri, and follows on from the original while also promising some new conflict and emotional moments for the audience packed with nostalgia.

Storyline

Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) appears to be nervous as she tells her parents (R Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor) that she has a boyfriend who is older and divorced, which the parents are still calm about until they meet Ashish (Ajay Devgn)—the same age as them. What follows is a funny and awkward generational clash as the family begins to buckle under the weight of this relationship. Then Ayesha's parents introduce a younger more "suitable" suitor (Meezaan), which sets the film's comedy in motion.

The trailer has a slew of nostalgic references to Ajay's past films, including recreations to Phool Aur Kaante and Singham, and it ends funnily with Lata Mangeshkar's "Buddha Mil Gaya," which self-consciously suggests the film's humor.

Positive Points

The sparks between Ajay and Rakul still feel fresh and, in addition, Madhavan and Gautami provide another level of dimensionality and emotional weight to the backstory. The dialogue hits and lands appropriately, and the humor feels naturalistic rather than forced. Meta references and nods to Ajay’s filmography will appeal to fans of the original, even eliciting a sense of 90s nostalgia.

Negative Points

For viewers online, some questioned the need for a sequel, some deeming it unnecessary and others expressing it might not carry the charm of the first part. The trailer likewise shows slight hints of production value, with a few Reddit users noting the absence of a standout song or the extravaganza of De De Pyaar De's visual extravaganza.

Overall: De De Pyaar De 2 looks and sounds like a light-hearted, "fun" film that will lean on charm, and humor and an appreciation for the nostalgia of the past. If the film stays true to its comedy and random emotional work, it might even pleasantly surprise some skeptics on its release date 14 November 2025.
