Finally the much awaited trailer of Emraan Hashmi is arrived with the impactful story through Haq. The trailer has an intense drama piloted by Suparn S. Verma, with the starcast Emraan Hashmi with Yami Gautam. The trailer reflects a strong blend of raw emotions, social apprehensions, and court drama, signalling an invigorating return for issue-based cinema in mainstream Bollywood.

Storyline

Haq is inspired by the 1985 landmark Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum case and follows Shazia Bano (Yami Gautam), a woman who takes her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) to court after he abandons her and their children. What starts off as a personal struggle becomes a national discourse about women's rights, faith, and justice. The trailer clearly establishes the stakes of this fight - not just a husband versus wife, but tradition against progress and silence against truth.

Positive Points

The biggest strength of the trailer is the performances. Yami Gautam gives a powerful performance, transitioning from a heartbroken wife, to an unstoppable force seeking justice.  Her fiery dialogue "Shauhar Koi Biryani Ya Sheer Qorma Nahi Jise Baant Ke Barqat Hogi" remains in your head long after the trailer has finished. Emraan Hashmi is at ease in his grey shaded character, bringing a menacing charm and much needed intensity to the drama. Uparn S. Verma's skillful direction is admirable in how it does not flinch when it comes to difficult and uncomfortable truths. The formal vs. informal editing of the trailer is effective and the passionate dialogue, and effective music, enhance the emotional impact. On top of this the trailer provides a realistic take on social and religious interconnections and problems.

Negative Points

The only downside to the trailer would be the melodramatic tone at certain moments. A louder emotional pitch could split audiences who enjoy a more muted form of storytelling. While the trailer embraces a bold new approach in terms of subject matter, it may refute a consistent meaning and intention between realism and sensationalism, should it not be executed with care.

Overall: Despite a few flaws, Haq rises to be one of the most compelling films around in 2023 – it is intense, challenging, and thought-provoking with raw emotion. With strong performances from Yami Gautam, Emraan Hashmi, Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady, it is a film that really will leave you pondering well after it has rolled the credits.
Ha acclaim comes out on the 7th of November, and is one of to watch to see – to feel.
