First Copy Season 2 Review: Munawar Faruqui Returns With a Gritty Tale of Redemption and Power
After the success of First Copy the Season 2 is coming back with more stakes and darker twists. The suspense-thriller drama created by Farhan P. Zamma, is set to premiere on MX Player on November 5, 2025. First Copy takes viewers deep into the seedy underbelly of Mumbai’s film piracy mafia. Led by Munawar Faruqui, Ashi Singh, Krystle D’Souza, Saqib Ayub, and Gulshan Grover, the ensemble cast promises a more exciting and emotional action-heavy season, one that builds on the gritty realism of season one.
Storyline
The second season begins after Arif’s (Munawar Faruqui) empire comes crashing down as he deals with betrayal, guilt, and ultimately a desire to reclaim his lost identity. The story is set in the chaotic early 2000s, when film piracy was at its height across the landscape of Mumbai, and embraces Arif’s redemption story amidst a greed and deceitful world. As a gesture of nostalgia, the makers recreate the period with books piled up with CDs, old computers, and underground dealings that are unclear. As Arif tries to recover his life, betrayal occurs, and there is emotional angst involving his romantic friends played by Ashi Singh and Krystle D’Souza. The struggle between ambition and morality propels the story forward, giving it a riveting and emotionally suspenseful theme.
Positive Aspects
The second season effectively utilizes its authentic representation of the early 2000s, as well as an above-average detail-oriented observance. Munawar Faruqui has a more measured, complex performance, deftly balancing vulnerability with intensity. The cinemetography, especially in the dark rooms and disorderly street chases, serves well to capture the edginess of Mumbai's mafia. Gulshan Grover and Raza Murad, among other capable supporting actors, give the narrative ground, with propulsive direction and pace making for a pleasing amount of excitement.

Negative Aspects
Some of the supporting roles, while informative and humorously interesting to the plot, sometimes added so much exposition that the conflict sometimes became diluted, then, not, but sometimes, being redundant and circular; we kept waiting on those useless moments of tension. The same goes for the romantic track, sparking emotion, but it eventually began to feel as if it diluted the central narration of crime and redemption overlap. I found a few of the supporting characters, or overall (perhaps family members) should have added measures to make their eventual arc feel important enough when addressed. We missed the depth of storyline choice for them.
Overall: First Copy Season 2 remains a gritty, punchy and dramatic story that easily balances crime and drama. Despite the minor flaws, it remains a compelling watch on its own standing as an immediate thriller in the chaotic underworld of Mumbai.
