Bayer Leverkusen is having a magical season so far, and they extended their unbeaten record by beating AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Xabi Alonso's men went away from home and won 2-0, which almost booked their place in the final of the UEFA Europa League 2024. Leverkusen got their goals from Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich, as they themselves are having quite extraordinary seasons on an individual level as well.

Bayer Leverkusen had to fight hard for the win, as they have a very poor record in Italy.
Their 2-0 win against AS Roma marks only their second win in the country. Bayer Leverkusen broke the deadlock in the 18th minute after a mistake at the back of Roma's defense. After a misplaced backpass, Leverkusen's full-back Alex Grimaldo latched onto it before setting up the young sensation Florian Wirtz for his 18th goal of the season.

After going behind, AS Roma improved their game and created many chances of their own. It seemed that they would draw level, but due to the poor finishing of their forwards, Daniel De Rossi's men had to keep chasing the game as the first half ended 1-0 for the visitors.
Just when it felt like the goal was coming for AS Roma, Robert Andrich doubled the lead for Leverkusen with a thunderous strike from long-range midway through the second half.

AS Roma's star striker Romelu Lukaku proved to be an isolated figure before being subbed out after the 80th minute, as AS Roma only had 2 shots on target throughout the 90 minutes of the game.
Tammy Abraham came on as a substitute and missed a golden chance to cut the deficit in half for the home side.

This win means that Xabi Alonso's side is still unbeaten and has extended their undisputed winning streak to 47 matches.
They are already in the final of the DFL Pokal, and with this win, they have put themselves in a great position to reach the Europa League final as well. After winning the Bundesliga already, Bayer Leverkusen has a chance of completing a triple, and it will be interesting to see whether they can accomplish this insane feat.
