The trailer of Haq has finally arrived, and within a minute and three seconds, it sets the tone for what could well be one of the toughest courtroom thrillers in years. Suparn S Varma is the director of the film The Starcast includes Yami Gautam Dhar opposite Emraan Hashmi, the film draws inspiration from the landmark Shah Bano case and adapts it into a cinematic inquiry into faith, justice, and gender equality.

Storyline

The 1:12 teaser begins with a glimpse of a tender love affair between wife (Yami Gautam Dhar) and husband (Emraan Hashmi), only to descend into a fight that cuts across family lines. The narrative goes into the Shah Bano Begum case, a historic Supreme Court judgment that created political controversy around secular law vs personal law in India. Drawing inspiration from Jigna Vora's book Bano: Bharat ki Beti, Haq presents the way in which a woman's voice of pain rattled the nation's social and legal landscape. Yami is Shah Bano, who will not remain silent, demanding her rights under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and Emraan is the lawyer who determines the fate of the case.

Positive Points

The strength of the teaser is in its realistic narration and sheer force of its material. Yami Gautam is brilliant in her tough avatar, reminding one of her remarkable performance in Article 370. Her dialogues are delivered with braveness, depicting a woman not afraid to challenge society and the judiciary. Emraan Hashmi, who is cast in a multi-faceted role, seems to bring weight and composed strength. The setup of courtroom drama, paired with Suparn S Varma’s her hard-hitting narratives, suggests a gripping drama. The teaser also benefits from the strong production values and an ensemble cast featuring Sheeba Chaddha and Danish Hussain, adding credibility to the film’s world.

Negative Points

With its delicate subject matter, the film threatens to polarize viewers. The teaser, though intense, reveals the core conflict too soon, leaving little in the way of surprise. With its delicate subject matter, the film threatens to polarize viewers. The teaser, though intense, reveals the core conflict too soon, leaving little in the way of surprise. And courtroom dramas need cutting-edge writing; the smallest imbalance in tone would vitiate the effect.

Overall: Scheduled for release on 7th November, 2025, Haq is set to be a performance-based, socially conscious film. If it maintains the intensity of the teaser, it may create controversies as fierce as the case itself.
