Swami Prasad Maurya Cites Dissatisfaction: Resigns From SP, Power Now In Akhilesh Yadav Hands
Swami Prasad Maurya

Former minister and Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, after resigning from the position of the party's national general secretary, has spoken out. He stated that some insignificant leaders, who cannot garner a single vote for the Samajwadi Party, criticize him incessantly every day. Maurya emphasized that he had verbally informed the party's national president, Akhilesh Yadav, about his concerns. However, he tendered his resignation amid objections raised the next day. Maurya clarified that while some old members of the party support him, those who hold no sway over the party oppose him. He conveyed to Akhilesh Yadav that if he cannot control these elements, he should assign Maurya some responsibility. When asked if he would leave the party, Maurya replied that the ball is now in Yadav's court, indicating his readiness to take on further responsibilities.

He further expressed surprise at how some lower-ranking and senior leaders of the party attempted to undermine his efforts by labeling his statements as personal opinions. Maurya highlighted the irony of some senior leaders choosing to remain silent instead of supporting him, thus demoralizing the party workers. He questioned the integrity of holding the position of national general secretary when even a statement from him is perceived as personal rather than reflecting the party's stance.

In a letter, Maurya pointed out that his efforts have attracted marginalized communities like tribals, Dalits, and backward classes towards the Samajwadi Party. He argued that if bias exists even in the position of national general secretary, then there's no justification for holding such an insignificant and biased position. Therefore, he tendered his resignation, urging the party to accept it.

Maurya's resignation highlights internal dissent within the Samajwadi Party and raises questions about its leadership's ability to manage internal conflicts and maintain unity. It also underscores the challenges of maintaining party cohesion and inclusivity amid differing opinions and power struggles.
