Nirbhoy Didi Steers Satyagraha With The Intentions Of Shielding The Communities Wrecked By Ganga River Erosion
Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury Nirbhoy Didi

Nirbhoy Didi, MLA and candidate for the Lok Sabha from Malda Dakshin launched a peaceful protest called Satyagraha on April 7th. Her reason for launching this protest was to support the people who were affected by the Ganga River Erosion in Malda and Murshidabad. The satyagraha took place at various locations, such as Hiranandapur Anchal, Kesarpur Colony Ganga Ghat, Bhootni, and Manikchak Assembly. The satyagraha received a lot of support from the local people present there as well.

The people of Maldaha and Murshidabad have suffered a lot of hardships because of the erosion of the Ganga River. Many people have suffered the wrath of this and have even lost their homes. They were stripped of their place to live and were facing many problems because of that as well. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury, fondly known as Nirbhoy Didi, started this satyagraha to protect the rights of these communities and to ensure their well-being.

Nirbhoy Didi is deeply committed and determined to keep the Ganga River clean. She wants to be the voice of the people and secure the purity and cleanliness of this holy river. She considers it to be her duty and top priority as an MLA and a candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.

Nirbhoy Didi not only wants to deal with the current problems of river erosion, she also wants to spread awareness among the masses, especially younger people, about the importance of the environment. She intends to teach them how to take care of this planet and build a better future for themselves and the people around them.

Nirbhoy Didi intends to fight for truth and justice without spreading hate and violence. She finds inspiration in Mahatma Gandhi's principles of Satyagraha. Just like Mahatma Gandhi fought for many things during his lifetime without spreading any negativity, she wants to fight for the truth in the same manner. When talking about drawing inspiration from Gandhiji, she said

"Gandhi's Satyagraha moment, his unique invention for truth and justice, serves as an enduring inspiration for me. Satyagraha, which stands for a ceaseless pursuit of truth without hatred or animosity, resonates deeply with our cause. Just as Gandhi advocated for righteous causes, we, too, are dedicated to rectifying wrongs and preserving our environment. The cleanliness of the Ganga remains a priority for me, as it reflects our commitment to safeguarding our mother nature and ensuring a sustainable future for all."

The satyagraha acquired tremendous support from the people of Malda and Murshidabad, as well as nearby areas. Their vocal and active participation reflects that there is a need to take action to deal with the challenges posed by river erosion and environmental degradation.
